Job description:
Psychologists diagnose, evaluate and treat mental and emotional disorders. They help mentally and emotionally disturbed clients adjust to life and may help medical and surgical patients deal with illnesses or injuries. They interview patients and give diagnostic tests. Often, psychologists will consult with other medical personnel regarding the best treatment for patients, especially treatment that includes medications.
Work environment:
Psychologists work in counseling centers, solo or group practices, hospitals or clinics.
Training requirements:
Psychologists are required to earn a doctorate. They are licensed by the State of California Board of Psychology.
