For High School Students
Student Groups & Clubs
Participating in a student group or club is another way you can get started while still in high school. Talk to your guidance counselor or teachers about what is available at your school.
Health and Science Clubs
High schools have different types of clubs available that can help you prepare for training in the future. Ask about clubs at your high school that involve health or science. Health Occupation Students of America has chapters at schools across California that prepare students for health jobs.
Peer Health Education
Educating patients about how to take care of their own health is an important part of many health jobs, and getting trained as a peer health educator is a great way to learn the basics. To find a peer health education program near you, ask about opportunities at your high school or local community health organizations. Many Planned Parenthood chapters offer peer health educator programs too.
