Scholarships & Financial Aid
Other Payment Help
If you need more financial aid options after applying for scholarships or government grants and loans, there are a number of other options to consider.
Other Scholarships
- Community Scholarships: Local businesses and community groups sometimes offer scholarships. If you are still in high school, check with your guidance counselor to find out if you are eligible for any community scholarships in your area.
- School Scholarships: Many colleges have scholarship funds that students can apply for at the same time they apply for admission. Ask your college’s admissions or financial aid office what their process is for awarding financial aid.
Paid Employment
Schools and employers located close to schools typically offer many jobs to students who need or want to work part-time to pay educational expenses. Part-time employment on campus is a great choice because it is easy to get there. Possible employment options on campus include jobs in a school’s libraries, cafeterias, departmental offices and laboratories, as well as work for individual teachers or professors. Before you apply for jobs, see if you qualify for the Federal Work-Study Program.
Bank Loans
Bank loans come from private credit unions or banks. They often carry higher interest rates and fees and may have less attractive repayment terms than federal loans, so they should be considered after applying for scholarships or government grants and loans. Talk to your training program’s financial aid office to get advice on applying for private loans.
