Job description:
Patient representatives, also known as patient navigators or coordinators, help patients understand the health services, procedures and policies available to them. They provide any information that patients need to make informed decisions about their care. Patient representatives also address any concerns, questions or complaints that patients may have during the course of their care. Patient representatives may also assist with administrative tasks, like reception, data entry and billing preparation.
Work environment:
Patient representatives work in hospitals, senior living facilities and physicians' offices.
Training requirements:
Patient representatives are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent, but many employers prefer experience in customer service, knowledge of medical terminology and/or an associate's degree in a field like health information technology.
