Our main campus, located in Whittier, is home to the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (Chiropractic College), one of the most recognized names in chiropractic education graduating Doctors of Chiropractic since 1911. Our university mission, “to educate students as competent, caring and successful health care practitioners of integrative medicine,” has created the opportunity to offer to our growing student population new and exciting programs, including the College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, established in 2001, and our newest addition, The School of Professional Studies, launched to meet the growing demands of a wide range of needs of health professionals.
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
To become an acupuncture and oriental medicine practitioner is an integrated step-by-step process. Each class, each lab and each experience builds on one another. The Master's degree in Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (MAOM) integrates current Oriental medicine/Western medicine theories and best practices to provide you with profound knowledge and solid, practical skills. Working with experienced leaders in the profession, you will become a skilled practitioner of Oriental medicine including acupuncture, herbal formulations and tui-na massage. You will also be prepared to critically appraise the health care literature and develop the skills needed to perform basic research. This career is ideal for individuals who are looking for a profession in which they can serve their communities, provide for their families and find self-fulfillment. There is demand for AOM practitioners who have interest in working with underserved populations. Students entering the College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine must have at least two years (60 semester/90 quarter credits) of education at the baccalaureate level. Additional courses (two units each) in biology, chemistry, physics and psychology must be completed within three trimesters (one calendar year) of matriculation.
