Associate's degree; state-issued license required
Respiratory therapy technicians evaluate, treat and care for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. Their duties often overlap with respiratory therapists, but technicians follow specific, well-defined respiratory care procedures under the direction of respiratory therapists and physicians, including treating patients and administering medications.
Respiratory therapy technicians work in hospitals and may travel to patients' homes.
Respiratory therapy technicians are required to earn an associate's or bachelor's degree. They are licensed by the State of California Respiratory Care Board.
