Job description:
Dispensing opticians fit eyeglasses and contact lenses, following prescriptions written by ophthalmologists or optometrists. They recommend eyeglass frames, lenses and lens coatings, and measure clients’ eyes. They also obtain a customer records to re-make eyeglasses or contact lenses, or verify prescriptions with optometrists or ophthalmologists.
Work environment:
Dispensing opticians work in medical offices or retail stores.
Training requirements:
Dispensing opticians receive training on the job or through apprenticeships lasting two or more years.
