Recreational Therapist

$41,641 – $70,283

Job description:

Recreational therapists provide treatment services and recreation activities to individuals with disabilities or illnesses. Therapists help individuals reduce depression and anxiety, recover basic motor functioning and socialize effectively so that they can enjoy greater independence, as well as reduce or eliminate the effects of their illness or disability. They use a variety of techniques, including arts and crafts, animals, sports, games, dance and movement, drama, music and community outings.

Work environment:

Recreational therapists may work in parks and recreation departments, special education programs in schools, rehabilitation facilities or nursing care facilities.

Training requirements:

Recreational therapists are required to earn a bachelor's degree.
