Medical Biller and Coder
Salary range:
$27,375 – $40,393
Job description:
A medical biller or medical coder collects payments from patients and maintains billing records. After patients receive health care services, they assign codes to diseases and treatments for billing purposes. A medical biller or medical coder sends bills to patients, and submits claims for reimbursement to insurance companies and government entities like Medicare.
Work environment:
A medical biller or medical coder can work in a variety of health care settings, including private offices, hospitals, clinics or rehabilitation facilities.
Training requirements:
Medical billers and coders receive on-the-job training, but some employers prefer post-secondary education such as a certificate or an associate's degree.
